The Federal Government through the Minister of Communication Technology and Nigerian Communications Commission NCC is pursuing, a fivefold increase in broadband penetration over the 2012 rate by the end of 2017
Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Eugene Juwah during the NCC Day at the Centenary Trade Fair in Abuja, disclosed that Nigeria has approached the threshold of another revolution in the area of data transmission with a robust plan for deployment of broadband infrastructure and services.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja, the company’s Director of Engineering Ajibade Momolosho disclosed that between 2013 and 2016, a further $68 million will be invested in broadband development, as the company would be expanding its business frontiers to Accra and Senegal in the next year and half.
According to the reports, MTN only plans to sell towers valued at $1 billion in Nigeria, and Bharti of India is selling about 15,000 of its towers across 17 countries for about $2 billion. Orange is said to be looking at selling a number of towers in sub-Saharan Africa and Egypt.
