Digital Service Centre to improves civil service delivery takes off by Aviation minister Chidoka

The Minister revealed during the commissioning exercise that the activity was in compliance with the directive from the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation that Ministries and Agencies should improve their capabilities to effectively implement Government policies under the Transformation Agenda.

The Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka has on Monday November 17, 2014 commissioned a Digital Service Centre for the digitization of the Ministry’s operations for effective service delivery.

Chidoka also said that the centre will enhance delivery of effective and efficient service to the public, enhance prompt implementation of government policies and projects under the transformation agenda, and enhance value for money on public expenditure, transparency, accountability, stewardship and professionalism. He added that the Digital Centre will make access to information in line with the Freedom of Information Act (FOI) easy and faster, facilitate data archiving, online chatting for enquiries, directory, comments and feedbacks.

The Minister further charged the staff of the Ministry to utilize the opportunity to improve them as well as put such improvement to practice, so as to affect the Ministry and the aviation sector positively.

Speaking earlier, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Aviation, Yemi Adelakun while welcoming the Minister to the commissioning said that the Digital Service Centre was a brain-child of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation and all MDAs mandated to replicate it. He noted that the Aviation Digital Centre has 20 computers which have been programmed to serve the Ministry and entire aviation sector.

In another development, Adelakun, who has recently been deployed to serve in the Civil Service Commission handed over to the incoming Permanent Secretary, Mohammed Abbas. While performing the handing over ceremony in his office, Adelakun enjoined the management and staff of the Ministry to cooperate with the incoming Permanent Secretary as they had done to him during his short stay in the Ministry. He expressed assurance that the incoming Permanent Secretary will deliver, stating that he is a great achiever. He also prayed that the new Permanent Secretary will take the Ministry to the next level.

The new Permanent Secretary, Abbas congratulated the outgoing Permanent Secretary on his stay in the Ministry and prayed that God will guide him in his new place of assignment. He further pledged to work with the management and staff of the Ministry, in order to take the Aviation Ministry to greater heights with focus on achieving the Transformation Agenda of Government.

The Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority on behalf of other parastatals pledged support for the incoming Permanent Secretary, while wishing the outgoing Permanent Secretary a successful service in his new deployment. Present at the event were members of staff and the management of the Ministry and its parastatals.
