The Peoples Democratic Party in Ondo State has denied a report making the rounds that the party has engaged in the trade-off of its choice of governorship candidates in Edo and Ondo states, as a way of resolving the leadership tussle between its two factional leaders, Ahmed Makarfi and Ali Modu Sheriff.

In a statement issued by the Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Banji Okunomo, on Monday, the PDP insisted that Mr. Eyitayo Jegede remained the candidate of the party for the forthcoming governorship election in Ondo State.

The party alleged that the supporters of the Accord Party took to the social media to announce that the Edo State governorship candidature had been ceded to the Makarfi faction while that of Ondo was given to the Sheriff faction with Mr. Jimoh Ibrahim as the candidate.

Okunomo said, “There is no truth in the report. Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu and Mr. Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) remain the PDP’s governorship candidates in Edo and Ondo states respectively.

“It is totally false. There is no trade-off of any kind. Such a rumour should be totally ignored.”

He reiterated that Ibrahim was a chieftain of the AP and had no business in the PDP, adding that the party had an effective mechanism for resolving any internal dispute.

According to him, both Makarfi and Sheriff had met and come up with a communiqué tending towards a peaceful resolution of the conflict between them.

He stressed that voters in Ondo and Edo states had always had confidence in the ability of the PDP to deliver on its promises, saying that the people had seen for themselves “the antics of those who promised and failed.
