Nestle parley media to improve on key societal challenges

Nestle Nigeria Creating Shared Value (CSV)

The Nestle Company with targets impacts on the community through the peculiar initiatives know as Creating Shared Value (CSV) with a special focus on Nutrition, Water and Rural Development has staged another media workshop on improve on key societal challenges in Nigeria going forward.

Speaking during the 4th Creating Shared Value Media Workshop held at it corporate office, Lagos, the Nestle Managing Director and Chief Executive, Chief Dharnesh Gordhon said the media workshop is part of our effort to build Nestlé’s thought leadership and presence in nutrition, water and rural development in Nigeria. This workshop will also enable us to work closely with you to share insights, identify best practices and mainstream CSV as a corporate strategy, he added.

In his welcome remarks statement on Friday, Chief Gordhon also said the fourth media workshop on Creating Shared Value, our own concept of Corporate Social Responsibility which Nestle engaging stakeholders-these external stakeholders provide valuable insight by informing us of the topics that they consider to be ‘material’, or especially important, both to our business and to the societies where we operate.

“This engagement process enables us to identify and focus on specific areas where we are expected to take a leadership role which in turn reveals areas in need of new commitment or objectives.

“Transparent reporting on material issues, including those areas where we can improvements to existing practices, is fast becoming one of the most important factors in overall reporting excellence and quality.

The managing director during his welcome remarks also presented the third sustainability 40pages, entitled Nestle in society, 2014 creating shared value report of Nestle Nigeria including an assessment of the challenges we face and the real progress we have made in meeting our 20 societal commitments in Nigeria. This report underlines our firm belief that for a company to prosper over the long term and create value for shareholders it must create value for the society at the same time, it was stated.

“At Nestle, Creating Shared Value is the way we do business and it is embedded in our holistic management thinking, integrating business opportunity and societal need is what we expect of our leaders and employees. Internal management tools help facilitate this process, such as strategic portfolio tool that assesses our brands against financial and nutrition targets, a capital expenditure process that includes societal indicators helping us to better target our efforts and investments.”

The managing director pointed out that delivering on our commitments-these commitments serve both external and internal purposes which guide our management and all of us at Nestle across business units in our collective efforts to reach these specific objectives.

“We meet regularly with NGO, academics, multilateral agencies, government and others to listen and learn from their criticisms and encouragement.

“Our commitments are the result of a methodical progress to engage with stakeholders representing a range of viewpoints on key societal challenges-from nutrition and responsible sourcing to water and environmental sustainability-at every stage of value chain.

Chief Gordhon solicited other companies to join Nestle Company in creating shared value journey which focuses business on the long term where success of society and economic activity are intimately intertwined and mutually reinforcing. “Better dialogue, engagement and partnership are required if we are to help address the ‘multiple burden’ of malnutrition, water scarcity, sustainable farming, climate change, human rights and more lead to more effective, collective action to address some of society’ deepest concern and challenges.”
