IHS invests to improve quality of life in communities in the South East of Nigeria

Security of life and property is critical to the growth and development of any state

Among the recent corporate social responsibility carried out by the company are the commissioning of a bespoke complex to house the Nekede/Ihiagwa Divisional Police Command in Owerri, Imo. Also the company renovated the Ohuhu Ekwuru Community Primary School, Ohuhu, Abia.

Speaking during the commissioning, General Manager, IHS, Barrister Jimoh Umoru said that the company’s commitment to corporate social responsibility stems from the belief that IHS is part of the communities in which it operates. “We are passionate about improving the quality of life through education in Nigeria and are pleased to partner with government and communities toward providing a more conducive learning environment to breed future leaders,” he added.

According to the source at the event revealed that there were popular saying among the community that following the company’s intervention, Ohuhu Ekwuru Community Primary School now has blocks of renovated classrooms, a borehole, and toilets.

Also speaking during the commissioning, Headmistress, Ohuhu Ekwuru Community Primary School, Mrs. Flora Otunoye thanked IHS for their generosity, saying that this is the first time in the history of the community that a private organization has donated such critical infrastructure to the community.

On his part, Commissioner of Police, Imo State, Abdulmajid Ali, who commissioned the station, also applauded IHS for building an exquisite edifice that will encourage members of the Nigerian police force to serve and perform their duties in securing the lives and properties of the indigenes.

In his response, Umoru said security of life and property is critical to the growth and development of any state. “We are thrilled to be part of efforts geared towards enhancing the security of Nekede and the surrounding communities,” he stated.

Investing in the communities in which it operates is a fundamental aspect of IHS’s identity and values. It will be recalled that IHS has in the past renovated a police station in Bariga, Lagos, and awarded scholarships to indigent students in Port Harcourt, Rivers. It also constructed culvert drainage to mitigate the effect of flooding in the Ughele community, Ondo, amongst other initiatives, the general manager narrated.
