NAICOM At Blemish With Overlapping Mess

According to free dictionary, mess is defined as a confused, troubling, or embarrassing condition or situation involving someone or place.

As commissioner for insurance about to settle the different between two of his classmates, Omotayo Dada and Olugbenga Falekulo who jointly wrote allegations tagged ‘Concerned Insurance professionals’ that Mohammed Kari did not obtain the qualifications claimed to possess.

The group also asserted that in view of that, he (Kari) is not qualified therefore, his not the right person to occupy the office of Commissioner for Insurance, Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Shortly after the petition, both Dada and Falekulo made u-turned in a rebuttal confirmed statement that Kari did indeed possess the necessary qualifications. Their rebuttal was published.

However, Commissioner Supporters in defend said “for all we know, they (petitioners) have the correct facts but would rather impugn the character of this recognised professional

“We can unequivocally state that we were Mohammed’s classmates and housemates in Glasgow and he is bona fide Chartered Member of the CII as evidenced by his membership card and a search at the CII. He has since removed the “opt-out” to shame the mischief makers.

“He is known to be a strict operator, someone who would defend the insurance profession with all he has and he has continued to do his best to sanitise the industry inspite of the many distractions by unscrupulous elements as represented by these faceless persons.

“It is perhaps, those unhappy with his dogged fight against unprofessional conduct in the Nigerian Insurance Industry that are on this misguided mission to discredit his good intentions.

Also the Commissioner for Insurance, Kari was reported been detained by the Department of State Security. But Rasaaq Salami, Head, Corporate Affairs of the commission, “refuted speculation story being circulated that commissioner was on honour of his earlier invitation from the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions on the Commission’s 2016 budget performance.”

 

The press statement which was signed and released by Rasaaq disclosed “that DSS attached to the Commission as a government organisation wade in to maintain law and order and also ensured that management left the premises without being attacked as the protest was getting violent. The union switched off the IT facility and lights in the premises.

 

As a result, the DSS helped the Commissioner to gain exit from the premises, especially because he needed to attend a meeting with the Senate Committee on Finance and Insurance.

 

He was at the National Assembly today for the meeting and was never arrested. The management will tomorrow (today) hold a meeting with the Union to resolve the issues, Rasaaq noted.

 

As above situations draw to closer to an end, the striking workers started their own which business activities were grounded at the headquarters of the National Insurance Commission, NAICOM, as a result of a protest staged against the commission’s management by workers.

Protesting NAICOM workers down tools, seal off Commission, under the aegis of Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Service Employees, AUPCTRE, sealed-off entrance to the premises of the regulator of the insurance sector over allegations bordering on victimization, corruption, incompetence, and nepotism, among others.

They called on President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene and stop what they described as autocracy in the running of the commission.

According to media reports, the Vice-Chairman, AUPCTRE, NAICOM chapter, Mahmud Usman-Maulud, said “the management of the commission, headed by the Commissioner of Insurance, had been violating provisions of an MoU signed by the Ministry of Finance, the Commission’s Management, and AUPCTRE which contained a non-victimization clause earlier this year.”

When striking workers were doing their own activities at the headquarters of the National Insurance Commission, which side of the situation Rasaaq Salami, head, corporate communications of the commission was, the side of workers or of the boss? In his statement of analysis the situation of how DSS attached to the commission rescued the commissioner from the workers’ embarrassment means he was stabled at the time of incident.

Upto the time of this report, no statement from the commissioner concerning the disobedient of the MoU against him or is a case of unknowingly to him or he is ok that minister of finance in the MoU signatory mentioned is not commissioner?
