Operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) yesterday intercepted smuggled imported frozen poultry products worth N5.9million.

According to the report, the Federal Operations Unit, Zone ‘A’ Ikeja Lagos, acting units controller, Deputy Comptroller Turaki Usman, disclosed the smuggled poultry products were concealed with 40 cartons of ceramic tiles in eight bathtubs.

Usman stated that the Mercedes Benz truck, which conveyed the products, was trailed from an unapproved route in Seme, after it was placed on surveillance by the operatives led by Assistant Comptroller Abdulahi Kirawa.

The source revealed that the intercepted vehicle was brought down to the FOU Zone ‘A’ mechanical area where a physical examination was conducted which revealed cartons of assorted foreign frozen products with 40 cartons of ceramic tiles and 8 bath tubes used to conceal the products.

“It is instructive to note that the nefarious attitude and ingenuity of smugglers to device such means of concealment makes the seizure very symbolic,” he said.

He commended the team for deploying effective intelligence in the seizure even as he charged them to remain focused and resilient in their anti-smuggling mandate.

“The NCS operation is a compendium of teams that are interwoven and whose operations are targeted towards achieving a common goal.

“The unit will continue to play a leading role in anti-smuggling in view of the need to continually meet and surpass our operational benchmark,” he said.
