WMC Boss Counsels other Commands on Maintenance of Boats Refurbished Culture

The western Marine Command (WMC), of Nigeria Customs Services, Area Controller, Comptroller Umar Yusuf in company of other officers went on a familiarization tour to some of the out-units of the Command last week these include: Badagry and  Yekeme Out-station  all in Lagos state while Idiroko Out-station in Ogun state. The purpose of the tour was to gear the officers on: i) Discipline, ii) Seizures, iii) Proper Dressing, iv) Proper handling of Arms & Ammunition  and v) To ensure maintenance of boats refurbished by the Command, he noted.
The comptroller Umar also used the opportunity to visit the CAC Seme (Compt. Ndalati, G.M) and CAC Idiroko (Compt. Haruna, M) to synergize with the Commands on information of smuggling activities if seen or noticed around the waterways where these Commands share boundaries with Western Marine Command.

In the same vein, the Comptroller paid visits to the Baale of Pashi (Chief Hunsu Abrahim “Baale Godunu”) in his Palace at Yekeme and the Baale of Akere (Chief Joseph Gandunu) respectively.
According to the press statement released by the public relation of the command, Nneoma Okwara disclosed that at Yekeme, the Baale and his elders were excited to receive the Area Controller saying it’s the first visit of its kind to the palace. They promised to synergize with NCS in warning their wards on the danger of smuggling activities and shall embark on a campaign to ensure their wards desist from smuggling. This came after the Comptroller made the purpose of his visit known. The Comptroller also emphasized on the dangers of smuggling on the economy of the country at large.
Statement further disclosed that the visit to the Baale of Akere came after the Comptroller had visited Idiroko station. During the visit to command, the CAC met the Baale and some of his elders in his palace, overwhelmed with excitement the Baale gave a brief history of NCS in relation to the community.

Baale who seem not happy with lukewarm attitude of customs authority, explained that from 1979 to 1980, Customs was the first Security Agency that ever came to Akere Waterside also the only Security Service that have a base in Akere. Stressing further, the Baale said due to the good relationship the community had with the agency, the elders of the community decided to give a piece of land to NCS to build a barrack which is undeveloped till date.

In the same vein, the report revealed that from January to march, 2015, the command made seizures of 800 kegs mixed with 25litres and 50litres of PMS with a DPV of N3,600,000.00, frozen poultry products of 305cartons with a DPV of N1,830,000.00, 88bags of 50kg of imported rice with a DPV of N710,000.00, respectively.
Furthermore, the reports highlights from January till date activities of the command that 348 bags of rice with a DPV of N1,890,400.00, 842 kegs of PMS with DPV of N3,691,350.00, 113 kegs vegetable oil with DPV of N643,000.00, and 305 cartons poultry with DPV of N1,830,000.00 was seizure.
The overall total DPV for the period stood at N6, 334,750.00 (six million three hundred and thirty four thousand seven hundred and fifty naira only).
