What can a well-designed container vessel do for the long-term economic development of a country or region of the world? Maersk Line recently found out through a case study of the economic, social and environmental impact of its ‘WAFMAX’ vessels.  Mærsk Post asked management in some of the M-15 countries for their views on being put in the spotlight under the Growth Market priority.

At such there are strong indications that a new system for tracking and monitoring shipping containers have been developed by an organization called iMinds.

According to a statement made signed and released by a chieftain of the WAFMAX organization, Harry O’Neill revealed that the system was essentially to ease situations where commerce was heavy.
“Commerce is heavily dependent on sea freight, transporting valuable commodities across the globe”, he highlighted, adding that the supply chain between producers and purchasers, vital information should freely relayed.
“Between producer and purchaser, shipping containers are relayed within complex logistical chains, frequently encountering hazards that can cause delays or jeopardise profitability.
“Scientists of iMinds-Ghent University in Belgium are now piloting a standardised new system for monitoring containers’ location and status as part of the COMACOD project.
” Sensors integrated into the containers will relay GPS data to the users, as well as other information such as temperature and humidity, providing unprecedented levels of monitoring and security”, the body stated further
