The Bayelsa State Government and Skyway Aviation Handling Company Plc have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on ground handling services for Bayelsa International Airport.

With the agreement, SAHCO is expected to provide passenger handling services, ramp handling, cargo and warehousing, among other aviation ground handling activities at the new airport.

The Manager, Corporate Communications, SAHCO, Mrs Vanessa Uansohia, said the firm would offer services to both international and domestic airline operators.

Uansohia said SAHCO, a fully indigenous ground handling company, divested some of its shares to the Nigerian Public in an Initial Public Offer concluded on January 9, 2019.

She stated that with manpower training and investments in state-of-the-art aviation ground handling equipment, among others, the company would exceed customers’ expectations.

The Bayelsa State Government last week opened the international airport with an inaugural flight by the Governor, Seriake Dickson, from Abuja, and an Air Peace flight from Lagos.

Dickson said the airport was built to improve the economy of the state, and would soon be fully inaugurated for both local and international flights.

According to him, Dantata and Sawoe handled the project at the cost of about N60bn.

The Governor, however, stated that by the time compensation was paid to landowners in the five communities that provided space for the airport, the total cost would be close to N65bn.
