FG PARTNERS HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES ON SUSTAINABLE ICT GROWTH

The Federal government has pledged its support to the Huawei Technologies in its Human capacity building strides on ICT in Nigeria in line with government commitment to promote ICT ecosystem development that would enable more Nigerian students to have opportunity to learn the latest ICT technologies.

 

The Minister of Communications, Dr. Adebayo Shittu, stated this at the Transcorp Hilton Abuja, while addressing participants at a summit, tagged “Nigeria ICT Talent Development Summit and Huawei ICT Competition Launch Ceremony.”

 

Shittu said Nigeria’s Future depends on the creativity and innovations of her youths and the Ministry will continue to invest in their future and encourage them to be both entrepreneurs and pacesetters in the ICT sector.

 

While lauding the Huawei’s Corporate Social Responsibility of developing the talented technological savvy youths in the Nigerian universities, Shittu said that government shall continue to identify with summits of such kind whose vision and mission is in tune with the government’s determination and commitment to build knowledge based economy.

The Minister urged Nigerian youths and participants at the event who have been granted scholarship for various technology-based studies in China courtesy Huawei Technologies, to embrace the opportunity given to them and develop themselves effectively in the ICT industry to enhance their contribution to the nation’s growth.

 

He added that the Ministry of Communications is poised to partner with the Company to accelerate the pace of socio-economic and sustainable growth, particularly in areas that would lead to the speedy realization of the objectives of Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP).

 

In His words “I want to assure you that we will continue to leverage on the experience and expertise of the private sector in leveraging the ICTs in the Country. We are willing to collaborate with the development partners and organized private sector to solve some challenges facing the country.  We want to partner and work hand in hand with you.” Shittu stated.

 

He also assured the Company that the Federal Government is committed to securing her territorial borders, life and property for a safer operational environment urging the company to continue to share her global experience in the development of the ICT industry with the Nigerian Government.

In a remark, the Managing Director, Huawei Nigeria Enterprise Businesses, Mr. Tank Li, expressed his appreciation to the Minister of Communications for his Ministry’s strong support for the company’s activities and the programmes. He stated that Huawei Technologies has been dedicated to the Nigerian market for the past 19 years, and they will continue to ensure that Nigeria is better connected.

 

According to him, Huawei in these 19 years has established collaboration not only with local manufacturers, but with government Agencies, Ministries, Universities and other related stakeholders in its bid to better position the nation’s technological development and connectivity.

 

Earlier, the Executive Secretary, Nigeria Universities Commission, Prof. Abubakar Adamu Rasheed, represented by Mr. Chris Maiyaki lauded the management of Huawei Technologies for organizing such an event, describing it as first of its kind in Africa, and urged the company to replicate the gesture in other Universities in Nigeria to widen the opportunity for other Nigerian Youth to develop their hidden technological talents.
