ABUJA, February 15, 2016 – Germany would like to accelerate its supply of Nigerian LNG, especially for its shipbuilding industry, a trade delegation told Minister of State for Petroleum Resources Ibe Kachikwu on Thursday.

The group of industrialists, headed by Beckmeyer, met with Kachikwu at the headquarters of state-run Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation in Abuja.

“We have a lot of interest in LNG, and I think this is one special thing we should develop in the next few years. I think there is increasing demand in Europe especially as we seek to reduce emissions. It is useful for both sides to develop this special business relationship,” German Vice Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Uwe Beckmeyer said.

Kachikwu expressed the readiness for Nigeria to strengthen ties with Germany in the energy market, pointing out the government’s current work on the Train 7 LNG project on Bonny Island.

The delayed venture will boost the already operational six trains. Current production is 22 million tonnes of LNG per year from the 99.1 mcm (3.5 bcf) per day input of gas. Train 7 is intended to increase production of LNG to 30 million tonnes per year.
