As Islamic faithful are preparing for Eid-El Kabir, the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), has urged fun seekers and waterways users to adhere strictly to safety rules to prevent emergencies.
The General Manager of LASWA, Mr Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Lagos.
Emmanuel said that safety consciousness on waterways had become imperative because so many people would use the facilities during the festival.
“All fun seekers, boat passengers, captains, deckhands and waterways users must be safety conscious and adhere strictly to the safety rules of the waterways at all times.
“They must not engage in over speeding, overloading or drinking alcohol while onboard a boat and more importantly, they must wear life jackets while no one should sail at night for whatever reason.
“LASWA felicitates with Muslims in the country and indeed, all over the world, particularly waterways users in Lagos on the occasion of Eid-El-Kabir and wishes them hitch-free celebrations,” he said.
The general manager said that LASWA patrol teams would be on standby to ensure compliance and monitoring.
