SON to trains army personnel on ISO 9001 QMS standards

Abuja: The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) said it has commenced training of the personnel of the Nigerian Army in order to  improve its processes in line with international best practices.

The Head, Public Relations of SON, Bola Fashina disclosed this in Abuja that the training would enable the army adopt the world acclaimed ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System (QMS) standards in its operations.

ISO 9001 is the international standard that specifies requirements for a Quality Management System (QMS). Organizations use the standard to demonstrate the ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer and regulatory requirements involving over one million organisations in over 170 countries globally.The purpose of the standard is to assist companies meet statutory and regulatory requirements relating to their products while achieving excellence in customer service and delivery.

Fashina said the Chief of Army Standards and Evaluation, Maj. Gen. Adekunle Shodunke stated this while declaring open the ISO quality management system standards implementation training for 12 officers of the Army Standards and Evaluation Department.

According to him, Shodunke said the training was the first in the series of others that will include officers from all departments of the Nigerian Army involved in standards evaluation and monitoring.

Fashina quoted Shodunke as saying: “The Army stands to benefit immensely from the adoption of the ISO Standard which has wide acceptance in various private sector, governmental, security and paramilitary institutions across the world.

He added that the General enjoined the trainees to be attentive and focused because there would be a test of understanding at the end.

“Take this training as seriously as your career promotional exams,” Fashina quoted the General in a statement.

He also said the training was sequel to the visit of the General to SON and the resolve to collaborate towards certification of the Nigerian Army processes to ISO Quality Management system standards.
