Speaking during a media parley held on Friday, October 10, 2025, the Corporate Affairs Director of Nigerian Breweries Plc, Dr Uzodinma Odenigbo, revealed that the company has made substantial investments in renewable energy infrastructure, including biomass, solar, and energy-efficiency projects, across its operations nationwide.

According to Odenigbo, these initiatives are part of the company’s “Brew a Better World” sustainability strategy, which aims to align its production processes with global climate goals. “Over the past few years, we have signed several Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with renewable energy firms to minimize dependence on non-renewable sources and accelerate our transition toward sustainable energy,” he explained.

Highlighting the company’s progress, Odenigbo disclosed that over N2.5 billion has been invested in various renewable energy and carbon reduction projects to drive its low-carbon transition. Beyond energy efficiency, Nigerian Breweries has also demonstrated leadership in water stewardship and ecosystem restoration, supporting water-replenishment projects in water-stressed regions.

One of its flagship environmental projects, the Olokomeji Reforestation Initiative in Ogun State, has seen the planting of over 300,000 trees, developed through external partnerships aimed at restoring local watersheds and biodiversity.

“As a company, we are deeply committed to sustainability outcomes through our Brew a Better World initiatives. Our goal is not just to meet corporate targets but to leave a lasting environmental legacy. We are signing new renewable power agreements and scaling up investments to further cut our carbon footprint as we work toward our 2030 net-zero ambition,” Odenigbo said.

Beyond its environmental focus, Nigerian Breweries is also strengthening its social sustainability impact through community empowerment programs. The company has recently invested over N200 million in skill acquisition initiatives and the construction of cassava milling plants in Kaduna and Awo-Omamma, designed to promote local enterprise and employment.

In promoting responsible drinking, Odenigbo noted that the company, in collaboration with members of the Beer Sectoral Group (BSG) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), continues to roll out its annual responsible alcohol consumption campaign among commercial drivers. The ongoing initiative is expected to reach up to 1,000 drivers by December 2025.

He further emphasized the company’s long-standing investment in reusable glass packaging, a move that reinforces its circular economy approach and aligns with global sustainability practices in the beverage industry.

“With every step we take, from energy transition to water replenishment and community empowerment, Nigerian Breweries remains fully committed to building a sustainable future for generations to come,” Odenigbo concluded.
