Polaris Bank, in collaboration with its strategic CSR partner, Evolve Trust Charity, continued its mission to support education by presenting essential school materials to students of Gbaja Girls (Junior and Senior) High School, Surulere, Lagos. This initiative, part of a broader nationwide effort, reinforces the bank’s commitment to empowering young learners, particularly the girl-child, with quality education and essential life skills.

Since the inception of this partnership in 2021, the initiative has positively impacted over 15,000 students across 35 public schools in nine states, including Lagos, Kano, Kogi, Imo, and the FCT. Through this program, students receive school essentials such as bags, uniforms, sandals, books, and pens, while also benefiting from brain training techniques and emotional intelligence education. Additionally, the initiative extends to training teachers, ensuring a more holistic approach to education.

Education as a Catalyst for Change

Speaking at the event, Mrs. Abimbola Ozomah, Executive Director, Corporate and Investment Banking at Polaris Bank, emphasized the institution’s alignment with the United Nations’ Principles for Responsible Banking, which focuses on sustainable development and global impact. She underscored the bank’s dedication to bridging the educational gap, particularly for the girl-child, citing UNESCO data that reveals 10.5 million out-of-school children in Nigeria, with six million of them being girls.

“This is more than just distributing school materials—it’s about empowering the girl-child for greater roles in society. Educated girls become informed women who drive change. At Polaris Bank, we remain committed to ensuring more girls have access to quality education,” Ozomah stated.

She further encouraged students to embrace education as a powerful tool for personal and societal transformation.

A Partnership That Delivers Impact

Ejeh Godwin, Programme Manager at Evolve Trust Charity, commended Polaris Bank for its unwavering support since 2021, highlighting how the partnership has expanded their reach to more schools across Nigeria.

“We couldn’t have achieved this scale alone. Polaris Bank’s dedication has made a significant difference, and we look forward to expanding further to reach even more students,” he said.

Similarly, Mrs. Dabiri Nwabuoku Adetoun Iyabo, Principal of Gbaja Girls Junior High School, expressed heartfelt gratitude, noting that the intervention had significantly boosted students’ morale and enthusiasm for learning.

The impact of the initiative was also felt by the students themselves, as Bankole Oreofeoluwa Emmanuella, Assistant Senior Girl of the school, expressed appreciation on behalf of her peers.

“My friends and I are thrilled by this gesture. These materials will make learning easier, and we promise to use them wisely and maintain them well,” she said.

Sustaining Educational Growth

The event concluded with the presentation of educational materials to students, reaffirming Polaris Bank’s long-term commitment to reducing the number of out-of-school children in Nigeria and fostering a brighter future for the next generation.

Through this initiative, Polaris Bank continues to strengthen its role as a corporate leader in education and sustainability, proving that impactful CSR goes beyond donations—it’s about investing in the future of young minds.
