The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has successfully disbursed ₦55.9 billion as monthly pensions and pension arrears to eligible retirees and Next-of-Kin of deceased pensioners under the Defined Benefits Scheme (DBS) for December 2025.
Of this total, ₦13.41 billion represents monthly pension payments across all departments, including payments to diaspora pensioners, while ₦42.50 billion covers outstanding pension arrears, gratuities, and death benefits owed to eligible beneficiaries.

The arrears payment addresses long-standing obligations resulting from the ₦32,000 pension increment, the 10.66% and 12.95% pension increases, as well as accrued pension arrears, gratuities, and death benefits.

Breakdown of Payments by Pension Departments:
Police Pension Department (PPD): ₦5,881,582 paid to 5 pensioners
Customs, Immigration, and Prisons Pension Department (CIPPD): ₦604,332,733.96 paid to 8,606 pensioners
Civil Service Pension Department (CSPD): ₦16,362,359,730.91 paid to pensioners

Gratuity and Death Benefits: ₦289,109,536.99 paid to eligible Next-of-Kin
With this disbursement, arrears arising from the ₦32,000 pension increment have been fully settled across all pension departments, except for one outstanding month for pensioners in the PaPD and TEHD.

Speaking on the milestone payment, Dr. Tolulope Odunaiya, Executive Secretary of PTAD, emphasized that the initiative reflects President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of senior citizens, consistent with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Dr. Odunaiya further reaffirmed the Directorate’s commitment to clearing the remaining arrears for PaPD and TEHD pensioners, while continuing to implement initiatives that enhance the welfare and well-being of DBS retirees nationwide.

“This payment milestone underscores PTAD’s dedication to ensuring transparency, efficiency, and prompt delivery of pension entitlements to retirees and their families,” said Igbenga Ajayi, MNIPR, Head of Corporate Communications Unit at PTAD.
The latest disbursement marks a significant step in restoring confidence in Nigeria’s pension system, ensuring that retired public servants and their Next-of-Kin receive their dues fully and promptly.

PTAD disburses ₦55.9 billion in December 2025 pensions and arrears, clearing long-standing DBS obligations including gratuities and death benefits, reaffirming the Tinubu administration’s commitment to retirees’ welfare.
