The Western Marine WC Command of the Nigeria Customs Service NCS in Apapa, Lagos, said it has identified a new route of smugglers through Yekeme, Idiroko and Badagry in Lagos, seized goods worth N4.4 million in duty paid value.
The Comptroller of the command, Mr Audu Zakka, revealed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Saturday that the seizure resulted from its renewed fight against smuggling.
Zakka, said the command had identified new strategies with intensified intelligence network which has paid off with the recent seizures from the notorious smuggling activities.
He pointed out that the items included 288 bags of Thailand rice, 170 cartoons of frozen chicken and 25 units of 25-litre cooking oil.
Zakka said the goods were destroyed under the supervision of the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
“The 170 cartoons of frozen chicken were destroyed under the supervision of NAFDAC as represented by Mr Ande Ripiye while the command was represented by Deputy-Comptroller Binga Benjamin,” he said.

“The smugglers continue to devise different ways of bringing in these products into the country, so we have also decided to work with more intelligence network and it has paid off.”
