The Capital Market Correspondents Association of Nigeria (CAMCAN) has finalized arrangements for its 2024 annual workshop, a flagship event designed to tackle critical challenges in the Nigerian capital market and contribute to the country’s economic stability.

Themed “Banks’ Recapitalisation: Bridging the Gap Between Investors and Issuers in the Nigerian Capital Market,” the workshop will be held on December 7-8, 2024, at Orchid Hotels, Ajah, Lagos.

This timely event highlights the urgent need for collaboration to fortify Nigeria’s financial ecosystem amidst economic uncertainties and regulatory demands.

Bridging Critical Gaps for Financial Resilience

According to CAMCAN, the workshop seeks to deepen the understanding between investors and issuers, laying the foundation for sustainable growth in the banking and capital market sectors. With banks at the heart of economic diversification efforts, the discussion on recapitalisation is crucial to addressing the sector’s ability to withstand global shocks and provide long-term financing to key industries like manufacturing and agriculture.

“The Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) rigorous capital adequacy reforms underscore the need for stronger capital bases to ensure financial stability. These reforms necessitate the involvement of investors to provide the needed funding, making transparent communication and strategic deployment of capital imperative,” CAMCAN stated.

Distinguished Guests to Drive Dialogue

The workshop will feature key stakeholders from regulatory bodies, financial institutions, and capital market operators.

Dr. Emomotimi Agama, Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission, will serve as the Special Guest of Honour.

Alhaji Umaru Kwairanga, Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group Plc., will chair the event.

Mr. Johnson Chukwu, Managing Director/CEO of Cowry Asset Management, will deliver the keynote address.

Other notable speakers include Mr. Temi Popoola, CEO of Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX), and Mr. Bola Onadele, CEO of FMDQ Group Plc. These thought leaders will bring their expertise to bear during panel discussions that promise actionable insights into bridging the gap between investors and issuers.
