The Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), in collaboration with the Finance Correspondents Association of Nigeria (FICAN), is set to host a transformative one-day workshop tailored to equip finance journalists with deeper insights into taxation and financial reporting.
Scheduled for Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at 9:00 a.m., the event will take place in Lagos and is designed to bridge the knowledge gap among finance correspondents, fostering more accurate and impactful tax reportage in Nigeria.
The workshop will open with a press briefing by Mr. Samuel Agbeluyi, mni, FCTI, President of CITN, followed by presentations by three expert resource persons on critical topics, including:
Basic Taxation Terminologies
Tax Administration and Practice for Beginners
Tax Reporting for Media Practitioners
In a joint statement by Prof. Godwin Oyedokun, Chairman, CITN Committee on Branding, Publicity, and Publications, and FICAN’s National Chairman, the workshop was described as an interactive platform aimed at enriching journalists’ understanding of taxation and its implications for Nigeria’s economy.
“This workshop is a step toward deepening the quality of tax reporting in the country,” the statement noted, adding that participants would receive certificates, CITN memorabilia, and a chance to compete in the newly instituted “Best Tax Reporter/Correspondent of the Year” award.
CITN’s Commitment to Capacity Building
Since its establishment in 1982, CITN has remained at the forefront of promoting professionalism in tax practice and administration. Chartered by the Federal Government of Nigeria under Act No. 76 of 1992, the Institute sets the benchmark for tax expertise in the country. This initiative aligns with CITN’s mandate to enhance public awareness of tax policies and practices.
FICAN’s Role in Strengthening Financial Journalism
