The Commerce and Industry Correspondents Association of Nigeria (CICAN) celebrated outstanding achievements in the public and private sectors at its 2024 CICAN Conference and Awards. The event, held on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Lagos, spotlighted individuals and organizations whose innovations and policies have significantly contributed to Nigeria’s economic growth.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State was recognized for his strides in Infrastructural Development, while Governor Muhammadu Yahaya of Gombe State received accolades for his Massive Industry Revolution. Zacch Adedeji, the Chairman and CEO of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), was honored for his work in Tax Efficiency and Innovations.
The awards also celebrated corporate excellence, with Moniepoint Microfinance Bank emerging as Fintech Company of the Year, and Coco Samba, a product of Bullion Go-Neat Global Limited, named Product of the Year. Other honorees included Barr. Victor Opara (SAN) for Sustained Advocacy to Industrialists, and Moses Osime, recognized as Outstanding PR Personality of the Year.
Themed “Manufacturing: $1 Trillion GDP Target by 2030 – Realities & Possibilities,” the event combined an insightful conference with the awards ceremony. Experts dissected the theme, urging the government to optimize tax collection processes, enhance investment in the non-metallic mining sector, and support locally developed technologies to boost Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and achieve the ambitious GDP target.
Key speakers included Afarm Mallinson Ukatu, CEO of Mallinson & Partners; Dr. Cartney Igwe, former Acting DG of FIIRO; and Bukola Odoe, Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Public-Private Partnerships, represented by Adefisoye Adekunle. Representing NACCIMA, William Inya shared insights on strategies to foster industrial growth.
The National Chairman of CICAN, Mr. Charles Okonji, commended the awardees, stating, “This recognition underscores CICAN’s commitment to integrity in celebrating those who truly drive economic development. We hope others will be inspired by their achievements.”
Also in attendance were Okey Nwankwo, Communications/Media Relations Manager at Dangote Industries Limited; Enuma Eze, Corporate Communications Manager at Rite Foods Ltd.; and Olufemi Ajadi, MD/CEO of Bullion Go-Neat Global Limited, represented by Bukola Adegboyega, among others.
