NCC Unveils Licensing Framework for Application-to-Person Services to Boost Transparency in Telecoms

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has unveiled a new Licensing Framework for Application-to-Person (A2P) services in the telecom industry, marking a significant step toward enhancing regulation and transparency. A2P services, which are widely used for automated communications such as alerts, notifications, and promotional messages, play a vital role in ensuring seamless business-to-consumer interactions. The new framework seeks to regulate these services, ensuring they are delivered in a lawful, reliable, and efficient manner.

In a statement from the NCC’s Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Reuben Muoka, the Commission highlighted that the framework aligns with the provisions of the Nigerian Communications Act (NCA) of 2003. The document is now publicly available on the NCC’s website for stakeholders to review and engage with at www.ncc.gov.ng.

To further engage with the public and industry stakeholders, the NCC has scheduled a virtual forum on December 20, 2024, to discuss the framework and invite contributions. Stakeholders are encouraged to submit their comments by December 19, 2024, via email at aadaba@ncc.gov.ng, with a copy to msyusuf@ncc.gov.ng.

This initiative underscores the NCC’s commitment to upholding the principles of the Nigerian Communications Act while promoting innovation within the telecom industry.
