The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has announced the appointment of Mrs. Talatu K. Ethan as its new Director of Public Relations. This strategic move underscores SON’s commitment to strengthening its communication and stakeholder engagement efforts.
Mrs. Ethan, a seasoned professional, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a Master of Technology in Microbiology from the Federal University of Technology, Minna. Her career spans over two decades, marked by multiple leadership roles and a wealth of expertise in Food Science and public engagement.
With notable certifications, including ISO/IEC 17025 Laboratory Assessor, Food Safety Management System (FSMS), Food Safety System Certification (FSSC) Lead Auditor, and Certified Food Scientist of Nigeria, Mrs. Ethan brings a robust skill set to her new role. She has established herself as a national expert in food fortification and the analysis of vitamins and minerals, contributing significantly to public health initiatives in Nigeria and beyond.
Her distinguished career with SON has seen her lead key operations in the North Central Region, Lagos, and the South-West Region. In these roles, she demonstrated exceptional leadership, focusing on implementing industry standards, streamlining processes, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Her expertise in quality management systems, food safety audits, and process optimisation has resulted in improved operational efficiency and product reliability.
Mrs. Ethan is also an accomplished researcher and laboratory analyst, specialising in testing for vitamins, minerals, mycotoxins, and pesticide residues. Her hands-on experience with advanced analytical instruments and her commitment to strict quality control protocols have made her a vital contributor to research and development, compliance, and process improvement initiatives.
Beyond her technical expertise, Mrs. Ethan is actively involved in professional and scientific organisations. She serves as Vice-President of the Mycotoxicology Society of Nigeria (MSN), a board member of the AOAC-Africa Section, and a member of both the Global Micronutrients Forum and the Institute of Public Analysts of Nigeria (IPAN). She is also a member of the Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology (NIFST). Her dedication to research and continuous learning has taken her to numerous international training programmes.
In her personal life, Mrs. Ethan enjoys reading, traveling, and conducting research. She is happily married and a proud mother of wonderful children.
Mrs. Ethan succeeds Mrs. Foluso Bolaji, who now serves as the Director of Human Resource Management at SON. With her extensive expertise, leadership, and commitment to excellence, Mrs. Ethan is poised to enhance SON’s public relations initiatives and foster stronger collaborations with stakeholders.
