The Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) is set to host its 2024 Annual Lecture, themed “Nigeria’s Maritime/Blue Economy Industry under the Renewed Hope Agenda: What is New.” The event, scheduled for December 12 at 10:00 AM at Rockview Hotel, Apapa, Lagos, will serve as a platform to delve into the vast opportunities of Nigeria’s Blue Economy, valued at approximately $1.9 trillion.
A highlight of the conference will be the participation of Nigeria’s Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, as the Special Guest of Honour. In recognition of his contributions, Oyetola will also be conferred with the title of Grand Patron of AMJON. Other notable participants include Barrister Pius Akutah, Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), and Dr. Paul Adalikwu, Secretary General of the Maritime Organisation of West and Central Africa (MOWCA), alongside other top maritime leaders, some of whom will also be inducted as AMJON Patrons.
According to AMJON General Secretary Oluwasegun Oladipupo, the event is designed to reposition the association as a key player in national development through capacity-building and enhanced functionality in the maritime industry. “The Patron of AMJON, Chief Tony Nwabunike, and other maritime leaders will help chart this new path for the association,” Oladipupo noted.
Outgoing AMJON President, Paul Ogbuokiri, emphasized the event’s focus on fostering collaborative dialogue to advance the maritime sector. “The lecture will provide a unique opportunity for stakeholders and investors to learn about government policies and initiatives aimed at unlocking the potential of the Blue Economy sector. This will highlight opportunities for investments and ensure stakeholders can achieve tangible returns on investment,” he explained.
The 2024 AMJON lecture will also feature the inauguration of newly elected executives, led by Mr. Kelvin Kagbare, who will oversee the association’s activities for the next three years. Additionally, deserving Nigerians will be honored with awards, and patrons and matrons will be officially installed to strengthen the association’s leadership framework.
With confirmed attendance from top maritime executives and compelling paper presentations, the conference promises to be a significant milestone for AMJON and Nigeria’s maritime industry.
