A Renewed Call for Service Excellence
The Ministry of Police Affairs’ 2024 SERVICOM Customer Service Week, held at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation in Abuja, served as a defining moment for the public service in Nigeria. Anchored on the theme “Above & Beyond,” the event reinforced the need for government staff to prioritize and exceed customer expectations, aligning with the “Renewed Hope Agenda” of the present administration.
Mr. Yusuf Abubakar Argungu, the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, inspired staff to adopt a proactive, customer-centric approach. Addressing attendees, he underscored the global significance of Customer Service Week, emphasizing the importance of recognizing the unwavering dedication of frontline staff who work tirelessly to enhance service delivery.
Argungu noted, “The Annual Customer Service Week is not just a celebration but a call to action. It is a time to reflect on the pivotal role of customer interests in service provision while appreciating stakeholders, partners, and clients for their commitment.”
Reflecting on the theme, Argungu and other speakers highlighted how the Ministry’s staff have persevered despite the country’s economic challenges. They emphasized the imperative of fostering synergy and collaboration among government entities to uplift the standards of public service, echoing citizens’ aspirations for improved service delivery.
Dr. Fabian E. Ogbu, Director of the Reform Coordination and Service Improvement Department, added a deeper dimension to the conversation. He stressed that the celebration was an opportunity for introspection and a reminder of the need to sustain citizen-focused service delivery in alignment with global best practices. Dr. Ogbu remarked, “It is not just about rewards; it’s about reaffirming our dedication to exceptional service.”
Meanwhile, Mrs. Lucy Zach-Ukoh, the SERVICOM National Coordinator, celebrated the resilience and commitment of public servants. She urged them to continue creating positive, memorable experiences that surpass basic expectations, reiterating the central role of customer service in nation-building.
As participants reflected on the event, the visual presence of dedicated staff—from reform coordinators to administrative officers—symbolized the Ministry’s commitment to efficient and responsive public service. The celebration not only honored the contributions of those behind the scenes but also set a benchmark for future engagements in public sector service delivery.
In the words of Argungu, “Every effort we make today strengthens the trust of Nigerians in their government tomorrow.”
The event was a resounding call to action for all civil servants to go above and beyond in delivering exceptional service, solidifying its relevance as a cornerstone for Nigeria’s development agenda.
