The Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) is set to host its highly anticipated 2024 Annual Conference and Awards on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at the Rockview Hotel, Apapa, Lagos. Themed “Nigeria’s Maritime/Blue Economy Industry Under the Renewed Hope Agenda: What is New,” the event promises to spark transformative discussions about Nigeria’s burgeoning $1.9 trillion Blue Economy under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.”
The conference will feature a lineup of eminent speakers, including Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA); Barr. Pius Akutah, Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC); and Mr. Bola Oyebamiji, Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA). They will provide expert insights on key topics such as port infrastructure development, economic regulation, and waterways transportation strategies.
Dr. Dantsoho will deliver a presentation on “Nigeria’s Blue Economy & Ports Infrastructural Development: The NPA Perspective.” Barr. Akutah will explore “Achieving a Profitable Port System: NSC’s Duty as Port Economic Regulator,” while Mr. Oyebamiji will outline “Developing a Waterways Transportation Master Plan as a Needed Model for Nigeria.”

Chief Tony Nwabunike, AMJON Patron, alongside other key stakeholders, will lead discussions to foster innovation and growth in the sector. Reflecting on the importance of the event, outgoing AMJON President Paul Ogbuokiri emphasized its role in enlightening participants about the untapped potential of the Blue Economy and the government’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for investments.
