The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) marked a monumental year of transformative leadership under its Managing Director, Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar, with the “Staff Recognition Dinner for Impactful Leadership and Team Excellence” at the prestigious Obudu Gardens of the Abuja Continental Hotel.
The event, themed the “Hardworking Staff Recognition Award Night,” was not just a celebration of milestones but a profound reflection on NAMA’s journey over the past year. It honored the tireless efforts of the agency’s staff while showcasing the visionary leadership that has redefined airspace management in Nigeria.
In his opening remarks, Engr. Farouk emphasized the importance of celebrating excellence:
“These awards are more than symbols; they are our way of saying, ‘We see you. We value you.’ To the recipients, this recognition is a call to aim higher, and to others, a challenge to seize the spotlight next year.”
Under Engr. Farouk’s leadership, NAMA has achieved remarkable milestones, each representing a step toward greater operational efficiency and excellence:
Enhanced Safety: A sharp reduction in Air Safety Reports, reflecting a commitment to strict ICAO standards.
Infrastructure Development: Control towers in seven major airports, including Sokoto, Owerri, and Ibadan, have been refurbished, with plans for six more upgrades.
Capacity Building: Investments in local and international training programs have elevated staff competencies to global standards.
Energy Efficiency: Solar-powered systems have been upgraded, cutting operational costs while ensuring uninterrupted energy supply.
ISO 9001 Certification: Achieved in December 2024, this certification validates NAMA’s adherence to quality management and operational excellence.
Staff Welfare: Outstanding allowances have been cleared, with processes in place for timely payment of entitlements.
Reflecting on these achievements, Engr. Farouk stated:
“Milestones like these are a testament to the dedication of our staff and the strategic direction of our leadership team. Together, we have laid a foundation for sustained excellence.”
The evening also served as a platform for directors, including Abba Ahmad, mni, and Dr. Abdullahi Musa, to commend Engr. Farouk’s leadership. They lauded his transformative vision, passing a vote of confidence in his administration and pledging continued support.
The celebration featured vibrant activities such as games, karaoke, and dance sessions, creating a joyful atmosphere that resonated with the gratitude and unity among staff. Many shared heartfelt reflections and prayers for even greater accomplishments in the coming years.
Appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on December 13, 2023, Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar has steered NAMA toward new horizons, ensuring the agency remains a beacon of innovation and excellence in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
