Air Peace has debunked a misleading video circulating on social media, which falsely depicted the boarding process for flight P47123 from Abuja to Lagos on December 20, 2024. The airline condemned the video as false, mischievous, and deliberately intended to mislead the public, causing confusion and disrupting the airline’s operations.

According to Air Peace, the delays on the day in question were due to harmattan-induced weather conditions, including haze and fog, which severely limited visibility and affected flight schedules nationwide. Despite the challenges, the airline swiftly deployed three additional aircraft to Abuja to facilitate the evacuation of passengers and minimize disruptions.

Dr. Ejike Ndiulo, Air Peace’s Head of Corporate Communications, explained that during the boarding process, some passengers became unruly, overwhelming FAAN and airline officers. This led to a temporary breakdown of order, with passengers rushing to the airside. To manage the situation and ensure safety, duty managers and ramp officials erected barricades at the motorized step to organize passengers according to their flight allocations.

While acknowledging the frustration caused by the delays, Air Peace strongly criticized the misinformation spread through the video. “We condemn in the strongest terms the falsehoods and insults propagated in the video post. These representations are completely at odds with our operational values,” said Dr. Ndiulo.

The airline reiterated that there is no truth to the allegations in the video and urged the public to disregard it in its entirety.

In a message to its customers, Air Peace expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by the delays and reassured passengers of its unwavering commitment to safety and service excellence. “Safety is not just a priority for us; it is the foundation of everything we do,” the statement emphasized.

Passengers were encouraged to contact the airline at callcenter@flyairpeace.com for any assistance or inquiries.

Reflection:

This incident sheds light on the operational challenges faced by airlines during Nigeria’s harmattan season, where unpredictable weather can disrupt even the most carefully planned schedules. Air Peace’s swift deployment of additional resources demonstrated its commitment to minimizing passenger inconvenience despite adverse conditions.

However, the incident also underscores the importance of clear communication and effective crowd management to mitigate passenger frustration during delays. Furthermore, it highlights the dangers of misinformation in an era of rapid digital dissemination, which can easily erode trust and create unnecessary panic.

Through its transparent handling of the situation and steadfast dedication to safety, Air Peace has reaffirmed its role as a reliable and customer-focused airline in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
