Nigerians Applaud Dangote-MRS Alliance as Petrol Price Drops to N935/Litre Nationwide

MRS Oil Nigeria Plc, a key player in Nigeria’s downstream oil sector, has slashed the price of petrol to N935 per litre across all its retail outlets nationwide. This price adjustment aligns with the announcement by Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Industries Limited, who revealed a strategic partnership between the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and MRS Oil and Gas. The collaboration has enabled a reduction in the ex-depot price of petrol from N970 to N899.50 per litre, making the new pump price feasible.

To enforce the new pricing, MRS Oil Nigeria Plc has instructed all its outlets to comply immediately, introducing a digital monitoring platform to ensure adherence. The company has urged Nigerians to report any stations that fail to implement the revised price, providing a whistleblowing hotline at 08009447853 and an email address, NG-FMKPMGWHISTLEBLOWING@NG.KPMG.COM, for complaints.

In a public statement, MRS reiterated its commitment to quality and sustainability:
“We call on all petrol station owners to join MRS Oil Nigeria Plc in strengthening the nation’s supply chain and ensuring product availability and quality for the benefit of all Nigerians.”

Field investigations confirmed that MRS stations nationwide had adjusted to the new price. In Lagos, queues formed at several outlets as motorists rushed to take advantage of the reduced rate.

Nigerians React

At the Alapere station on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Mrs. Ibukun Phillips, a local resident, shared her delight as her husband refueled their car.
“This price reduction is the best gift of the season,” she said. “We’re not just saving money; we’re getting eco-friendly, high-quality petrol. My husband and I are now committed to buying exclusively from MRS.”

Similarly, Adio Ajibade, a commercial bus driver, praised the move as a festive-season relief.
“The lower price will reduce transport costs, and that’s good for everyone. God bless Aliko Dangote for making this possible,” he remarked.

Expert Opinions

Public affairs analyst Dr. Tunde Akanni described the Dangote-MRS partnership as transformative, emphasizing its broader implications.
“This collaboration goes beyond reducing costs. It ensures high-quality, environmentally friendly fuel, supporting economic growth and public health,” Dr. Akanni noted.

Many Nigerians echoed these sentiments, urging other marketers to align with the indigenous Dangote Refinery instead of relying on imported substandard products. This development underscores a new chapter in Nigeria’s quest for self-sufficiency and sustainable energy solutions.
