In a significant step towards enhancing rural electrification and community development, the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, commissioned a state-of-the-art 300KVA transformer for Onu-Orie, Obuno Autonomous Community in Akpugo, Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State. The project, valued at millions of naira, was spearheaded by renowned industrialist and philanthropist, Dr. Basil Ogbuanu, CEO of Second Coming Limited.

Speaking at the commissioning, Chief Nnaji expressed his commitment to attracting more people-oriented projects to the community, emphasizing human capital development and infrastructure. “I may not have money to distribute, but I can bring impactful projects that improve lives. Over 100 individuals from Akpugo have secured employment through my efforts, and I will continue to work for the betterment of our people,” he stated.

He commended Dr. Ogbuanu for his selfless contributions, describing the project as a vital boost to the government’s efforts in advancing rural development. “This transformer, along with the electricity reticulation, will improve livelihoods by powering homes and enabling local businesses to thrive. I urge other philanthropists to emulate this exemplary act,” Nnaji added.

Dr. Ogbuanu, also a pastor with Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, revealed that his motivation stemmed from a desire to make a lasting impact. “It is not about the structures we build but the lives we touch. This transformer will address long-standing power challenges, especially during festive periods, enabling artisans and small businesses to flourish,” he explained.

Ogbuanu, who has previously funded solar-powered streetlights and scholarships for community members, reiterated his call for increased government presence in the area, particularly in education and infrastructure. “Quality education is the bridge between the rich and the poor. Government intervention in this area will make a significant difference,” he noted.

Community leaders, including Igwe Jacob Nwatu, the Traditional Ruler of Obuno, and Chief Chijioke Nwobodo, Vice Chairman of the community, lauded Ogbuanu’s efforts. “This project will open up our community for commerce and investment,” said Nwobodo, while Igwe Nwatu highlighted Ogbuanu’s consistent contributions to the community’s well-being.

Youth representative Mr. Collins Ani also praised the initiative, emphasizing its transformative impact on local businesses, from welding to barbing and cold storage.

The event featured a moment of silence for the late community chairman, after which Dr. Ogbuanu awarded a university scholarship to the deceased leader’s first son. The day concluded with a festive meal for all residents, a gesture reflecting the spirit of unity and generosity.

Dr. Ogbuanu’s latest project underscores his dedication to sustainable development in Enugu State. Through Second Coming Gas Nig. Ltd, he has implemented numerous corporate social responsibility initiatives in education, healthcare, and infrastructure, fostering hope for a brighter future in the region.
