The Kano/Jigawa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, led by Comptroller Dauda Ibrahim Chana, has recorded an extraordinary performance in revenue generation and anti-smuggling operations, reaffirming its pivotal role in national economic development and security.For the year, the command generated a total revenue of N102,503,573,383.31, representing an impressive 94% increase compared to the previous year. This remarkable feat is attributed to the adoption of innovative revenue collection strategies, robust enforcement mechanisms, and the use of advanced technology.
In addition to revenue collection, the command intensified its anti-smuggling operations, leading to seizures worth a total duty-paid value of N235,290,320. The notable items seized include:
136 bags of foreign parboiled rice (50kg each)
238 cartons of spaghetti, macaroni, and couscous
534 cartons of foreign non-dairy creamer milk
210 kg of kola nuts
552 bales of second-hand clothing
191 blocks of compressed blue cannabis (handed over to NDLEA)
74,870 tablets of Tramadol hydrochloride and 280 blocks of Indian hemp (handed over to NDLEA)
5,066 cartons of foreign GIV soap and 58 used tires
1,290 packs of expired/fake pharmaceutical products (handed over to NAFDAC)
750 bottles of Otrivin (15ml each), handed over to NAFDAC
In a significant collaborative effort with the Wildlife Justice Commission, the command intercepted 4,410 kg of pangolin scales in joint operations, leading to the arrest of one suspect in Mubi, Adamawa State.
Comptroller Dauda Chana attributed these successes to effective stakeholder engagement, robust border security measures, and strengthened partnerships with sister security agencies. The command’s proactive engagement with terminal operators, licensed agents, and market associations has enhanced trade facilitation and compliance.
Expressing his gratitude, Comptroller Chana commended the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, and his management team for their unwavering support. He also acknowledged the vital contributions of sister security agencies and critical stakeholders in achieving these outstanding results.
