Mr. Olumuyiwa Olumekun, The Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (GMD/CEO) NAHCO aviance
The Nigerian Aviation Handling Company PLC (NAHCO aviance) has announced the appointment of Mr. Olumuyiwa Olumekun as the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (GMD/CEO), effective January 1, 2025. Olumekun’s appointment follows the conclusion of Mr. Indranil Gupta’s tenure, which ended on December 31, 2024.
In an official communication to the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) dated December 27, 2024, Mr. Bello Abdullahi, the Company Secretary, confirmed the board’s approval of Olumekun’s new role. The notice also marked the retirement of Mr. Gupta, who is stepping down after completing his service contract and retiring from the company’s Board of Directors.
Flashback & Reflection on Mr. Olumuyiwa Olumekun’s Career:
Olumuyiwa Olumekun brings with him over three decades of leadership experience spanning several industries. Prior to his appointment as GMD/CEO, he retired as the Group Executive Director of Corporate Services at NAHCO PLC in February 2022, having held numerous strategic roles during his tenure. These included Acting Managing Director from August 2021 to February 2022 and Executive Director of Corporate Services, where he played an instrumental role in leading key company functions such as Human Resources, Learning & Development, IT, Infrastructure, and Procurement.
During Olumekun’s leadership, NAHCO experienced remarkable growth, particularly through the successful execution of the company’s transformative 2019-2023 strategic plan, which resulted in a staggering 300% increase in profitability. His contributions also extended to spearheading NAHCO’s Commercial and Business Development efforts in 2019 before transitioning to the Corporate Services Directorate.
Olumekun’s career with NAHCO did not end with his retirement. Since 2022, he has remained actively involved as a Non-Executive Director on the boards of several NAHCO subsidiaries, including NAHCO Free Trade Zone, NAHCO Commodities Limited, NAHCO Travels & Hospitality Limited, and Mainland Cargo Options, now NAHCO Logistics.
His professional journey also includes a long and impactful tenure at Red Star Express PLC (FedEx), where he spent 23 years, ultimately retiring as Executive Director in 2015. At Red Star, he managed key areas such as Sales, Marketing, Operations, Strategy & Business Development, Customer Service, and IT, and served as a board member for a decade.
Olumekun is a graduate of the University of Ibadan and holds advanced management qualifications from the Lagos Business School, including the Chief Executive and Advanced Management Programmes. He is a Member of the Institute of Directors and a Registered Professional with the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria.
In addition to his distinguished career, Olumekun is a family man, committed to his wife and children. His appointment as the new GMD/CEO marks a new chapter for NAHCO aviance, with expectations of continued growth and leadership under his stewardship.
