In just one year as Acting Director-General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Capt. Chris Najomo has proven himself to be a trailblazer, leaving an indelible mark on Nigeria’s aviation sector. With his mantra, Ease of Doing Business Without Compromising Standards, he has delivered measurable improvements that are transforming the industry and ensuring safer skies.
Under Capt. Najomo’s leadership, Nigeria’s airspace has become significantly safer, thanks to enhanced safety and surveillance measures. The establishment of the Flight Data Center marks a revolutionary step in accident prevention and data management. Furthermore, regional offices have been completed, ensuring more effective oversight and service delivery across the nation.
A vocal advocate for consumer rights, Capt. Najomo has breathed new life into the Consumer Protection Department, ensuring passengers’ needs are prioritized. His introduction of the Digital Aircraft Tracking and Reporting (DATR) portal has modernized the NCAA’s operations, signaling a bold commitment to transparency and efficiency.
Capt. Najomo also addressed long-standing internal issues by ensuring that workers received long-overdue payments, despite bureaucratic hurdles. His historic signing of the International Registry for Mobile Equipment (IDERA) has streamlined the aircraft registration process and eliminated corrupt practices by enabling inspections to be conducted domestically.
His leadership contributed to Nigeria’s commendable performance in the recent international aviation safety audit, further solidifying the country’s reputation as a safe and reliable aviation hub. Additionally, Capt. Najomo has strategically tackled the root causes of high airfares, ensuring a more stable and affordable travel experience for passengers.
