In a move that underscores its commitment to nurturing young talent, Brito Sporting Club of Portugal, a football club established in 1956, has officially signed 19-year-old Nigerian-born footballer Yaqub Usman-Malah. The contract was finalized and celebrated during a special unveiling ceremony on Saturday, January 4, 2025.
Yaqub, born in Nigeria in 2006, has been widely recognized as a rising star with immense promise. Before his transition to professional football in Portugal, Yaqub honed his skills as a student and trainee at the prestigious Brooke College Football Academy in the United Kingdom.
During his time at the academy, Yaqub delivered an impressive performance, scoring 17 goals in 32 matches. He also demonstrated remarkable resilience, completing 116 injury-free training sessions that spanned a total of 2,270 minutes of on-field action.
The young footballer’s exemplary attitude and talent earned him high praise from Tomasz Wasylik, the lead coach of the Under-17B team at Brooke College Football Academy. Describing Yaqub as a “well-liked individual” and “a role model to his teammates,” Coach Wasylik highlighted his professionalism, tactical intelligence, and technical skills. The coach further noted that Yaqub excelled in various positions on the field and was instrumental in National School Cup competitions during the 2023/2024 season.
Yaqub’s father, Mr. Usman Malah, expressed his pride and optimism for his son’s future in a statement released on Wednesday, January 8, 2025. “We are excited to see Yaqub showcase his undeniable skills and boundless energy. We wish him a successful career and hope he secures a place in the halls of football greatness,” he said.
