In 2024, Airbus demonstrated resilience in a challenging market by delivering 766 commercial aircraft to 86 customers worldwide, marking a 4% increase over the 735 jets delivered in 2023. This growth, while notable, reflects a deceleration from the post-pandemic surge in demand, signaling a leveling in the aviation sector’s recovery.

The European aircraft manufacturer also reported 878 net new orders for 2024, a sharp drop from the 2,319 orders recorded the previous year. This brought Airbus’ total order backlog to an impressive 8,658 aircraft, underscoring the company’s leading position in the global aerospace market despite market fluctuations.

Christian Scherer, Airbus’ Chief Commercial Aircraft Officer, lauded the team’s efforts and expressed gratitude to customers for their continued trust. “We won key customer decisions and saw phenomenal momentum for our widebody order book, complementing our leadership in the single-aisle market,” Scherer noted.

The popular A320neo narrow-body series led the charge with 602 deliveries in 2024. Other models also contributed significantly: 75 units of the A220 series, 57 A350s, and 32 A330s were delivered during the year.

Reflecting on the performance, Scherer remarked, “Given the complex and fast-changing environment we continue to operate in, we consider 2024 a good year. It has been a massive team effort to achieve this result.”

While Airbus celebrated its achievements, rival Boeing is set to release its annual delivery and order totals later this month. Boeing faced production setbacks and work stoppages in 2024, potentially giving Airbus a competitive edge in the perennial race between the aerospace giants.

As Airbus looks ahead, its sustained leadership in the single-aisle market and a growing widebody portfolio reaffirm its position as a global powerhouse in commercial aviation, even as the industry adapts to evolving demand dynamics.
