During the visit, the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, Prof. Charles Anosike, welcomed Dr. Kana and provided a detailed briefing on the agency’s operations. He highlighted NiMet’s active role as Nigeria’s representative to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and its collaboration with several key government ministries and agencies.
“We maintain robust relationships with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Blue Economy, and other MDAs that depend on our weather forecasts for their operations,” Prof. Anosike stated.
In his response, Dr. Kana commended NiMet for its pivotal role in supporting Nigeria’s socio-economic growth. He praised the leadership of Prof. Anosike, the management team, and the staff for their dedication, urging them to enhance their efforts further.
“I am impressed by the strong ties NiMet has established with other ministries and agencies. I encourage even closer collaboration among the agency heads. Together with the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo SAN, I will work to ensure NiMet secures increased government support,” Dr. Kana assured.
As part of the visit, Dr. Kana toured NiMet’s facilities, including the state-of-the-art digital weather broadcasting studio, guided by Prof. Anosike.
