NSIB DG Captain Badeh Jr. Strengthens Transport Safety Collaboration with Oyo State Government

In a landmark meeting aimed at fostering progress in transport safety, Captain Alex Badeh Jr., Director General of the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), led a team on a courtesy visit to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State. This engagement underscored the critical importance of partnership between federal safety bodies and state governments in enhancing public safety standards.

During the visit, Captain Badeh commended Governor Makinde for his visionary leadership and the strides made in infrastructure development across Oyo State. “Your commitment to infrastructural excellence serves as a foundation for integrating robust safety measures that protect lives and investments,” Badeh noted. He elaborated on the bureau’s mission to investigate incidents, issue actionable recommendations, and engage stakeholders in building a culture of safety.

Governor Makinde, in his response, lauded NSIB’s efforts in raising the bar for transport safety across Nigeria. “Your work ensures that past mistakes are not repeated, and it reinforces our collective responsibility to prevent avoidable tragedies,” he remarked. The Governor expressed readiness to explore how Oyo State could leverage the NSIB’s expertise to bolster safety initiatives, particularly in transportation and public infrastructure.

Mrs. Bimbo Olawumi Oladeji, NSIB’s Director of Public Affairs and Family Assistance, shared insights into the meeting’s outcomes, emphasizing mutual agreement on key areas of collaboration. These included safety education, stakeholder training, and public awareness campaigns to cultivate a safety-first mindset among citizens.

The discussions concluded with a shared commitment to advance innovative safety programmes, benefiting not just Oyo State but setting a precedent for other regions in Nigeria. Reflecting on the visit, Captain Badeh remarked, “Our goal is to ensure that safety is a cornerstone of every development effort, and today’s dialogue with Governor Makinde has set the stage for impactful progress.”

Governor Makinde reaffirmed the need for a united approach: “By working together, we can ensure safer roads, better transport systems, and an improved quality of life for all.”
