In a bold move to address digital inequity and promote environmental sustainability, Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani has unveiled the ‘Bosun Tijani Foundation – The Reuse Lab. The initiative according to his X handling, seeks to bridge the digital divide by refurbishing and distributing used digital devices to underserved communities across Nigeria.
As part of its pilot phase, the foundation is giving out 70 refurbished laptops to secondary school students nationwide. This phase focuses on empowering young minds by providing tools that can help unlock their potential. Dr. Tijani encouraged interested students to submit essays detailing why they deserve these devices. The essays will be judged on originality, creativity, and the students’ vision for the future. However, he cautioned against relying entirely on AI-generated content, emphasizing the importance of personal expression.
The Reuse Lab also contributes to environmental sustainability by reducing electronic waste. “This is more than a giveaway,” Dr. Tijani said. “It’s about ensuring talented young people, who may otherwise be excluded, have the opportunity to thrive in the digital world.”
Acknowledging the critical support of partners like the British Council and Co-Creation Hub, which donated the first set of devices, Dr. Tijani called on corporate entities to join the cause by donating used digital devices. These contributions will be refurbished and redirected to individuals in need, further expanding the foundation’s impact.
To qualify for this opportunity, students are directed to submit their essays through a dedicated link: Reuse Lab Submission. Dr. Tijani also invited organizations interested in supporting this initiative to express their interest via email at foundation@tijani.co.
This initiative is a testament to the power of collaboration in driving digital inclusion and sustainability, with a ripple effect that could change lives and inspire a new generation of leaders.
