In a landmark move aimed at alleviating the economic hardships faced by millions, the federal government, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has finalized plans to distribute N75,000 in cash to 70 million Nigerians. This unprecedented gesture is part of a broader strategy to combat poverty and enhance the quality of life for citizens struggling amidst economic challenges.
Hon. Aliyu Audu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, outlined the government’s commitment to these welfare measures in a statement issued on Sunday. Audu emphasized that the distribution initiative is a direct response to the growing poverty levels in Nigeria and aligns with President Tinubu’s unwavering focus on uplifting the nation’s poorest citizens.
Audu also highlighted the impressive track record of President Tinubu’s administration, which, in just 19 months, has brought substantial changes to Nigeria’s economic landscape. He pointed to a surge in foreign portfolio investments, the stabilization of foreign reserves, and effective fiscal policies that have seen a significant increase in the country’s oil production and non-oil sector activities. This economic revitalization has been accompanied by more robust local and international financial inflows, including a $7.69 billion increase in foreign reserves within the past year.
In addition, Audu noted the government’s fiscal management success, with an increase in federation allocations at the state and local levels, providing enhanced funds for local contractors and improved security for farmers. These efforts are expected to lower food prices, fostering economic recovery across sectors. A key component of this strategy is the distribution of 255 new tractors to modernize agriculture, paving the way for food surpluses and further economic growth.
Audu also commended the administration for the successful repatriation of $52.88 million in looted funds, underlining Tinubu’s commitment to tackling corruption. He called on APC supporters to increase engagement with Nigerians and spread the message of the government’s people-focused policies as President Tinubu prepares to mark his two-year anniversary in office.
In a bold statement of intent, Audu emphasized that the government’s progress is tangible, with clear improvements in the lives of ordinary Nigerians. He remains confident that the policies will continue to drive positive change as the administration prepares for the next phase of development.
