Nigeria’s Indigenous Energy Leader Sets Benchmark for Safety Excellence
Seplat Energy Plc, Nigeria’s leading indigenous energy company, has been named the AfriSAFE Energy Company of the Year at the prestigious Africa Safety Award for Excellence (AfriSAFE) 2024 Congress and Award Banquet. The recognition underscores the company’s unwavering commitment to safety standards and sustainable practices in the energy industry.
Celebrating Excellence in Safety
The award ceremony, held in Livingstone, Zambia, showcased 11,000 nominations across various categories, highlighting the best in health, safety, security, and environmental practices. The event was a grand affair featuring the Africa Safety Congress, tourism showcases, exhibitions, and a glamorous award presentation.
The award was received by Seplat Energy’s senior management team, including:
- Mr. Ayodele Olatunde, Managing Director, Seplat West Ltd.
- Mrs. Ibi-Ada Itotoi, Managing Director, Seplat East Onshore Ltd.
- Mr. Adeshina Sadiq, General Manager, Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE).
A Legacy of Safety Leadership
AfriSAFE, recognized as Africa’s foremost HSE event, has completed five successful editions, reaching an estimated audience of over 500 million. The event is endorsed by leading global institutions such as the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), the world’s largest chartered body for safety professionals.

At the award presentation, Femi Da-silva, Chief Coordinator of AfriSAFE, praised Seplat Energy for its dedication to safety practices. “AfriSAFE is committed to celebrating outstanding contributions to health, safety, security, sustainability, and environmental practices. Seplat Energy’s dedication to safety is evident in its operations. As of its 2024 nine-month results, the company reported a remarkable achievement of 8.2 million man-hours without Lost Time Injury (LTI) across its operated assets, showcasing its commitment to maintaining a robust safety culture.
