A Vision of Hope Through Art
In a groundbreaking initiative, the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy, in collaboration with MADhouse by Tikera Africa, has launched the Reimagining Hope Residency—a transformative program designed to empower 20 outstanding creatives to use art as a tool for social change and cultural expression.
Looking back, this residency stands as a bold statement of the power of creativity in nation-building. With its structured mentorship, collaborative workshops, and open studio sessions, the program provides a rare opportunity for painters, sculptors, and digital artists to push artistic boundaries while addressing contemporary societal issues.
The initiative is more than an artistic retreat; it is a movement—one that will see artists produce between two to four thought-provoking pieces that blend Nigeria’s cultural heritage with modern-day narratives. These works will find their place in government buildings, embassies, and prominent institutions worldwide, amplifying the voices of Nigerian creatives on a global scale.
Reflecting on the significance of this endeavor, Hon. Minister Barrister Hannatu Musa Musawa underscored its impact:
“By empowering our creatives, we are not just fostering artistic talent but also investing in Nigeria’s future as a cultural and artistic powerhouse.”
Osarume Akenzua, Director of Innovation and Enterprise at Tikera Africa, reinforced this vision, stating:
“This residency reimagines how art can be a bridge for unity, a catalyst for social change, and a driver of economic growth in the creative industry.”
With applications open from January 22 to February 15, 2025, this program is set to inspire a new wave of artists committed to reimagining hope through their craft.
The Reimagining Hope Residency is a testament to the enduring power of artistic expression—one that will leave a lasting legacy in Nigeria’s creative and cultural evolution.
