Tears of relief and gratitude flowed freely in Babban Saura, Millennium City, as indigenous families received long-awaited land offer letters from the Kaduna State Government, marking the resolution of years of land injustice.
The historic milestone is part of Governor Uba Sani’s pilot project aimed at compensating communities whose lands were seized without due process by past administrations. The initiative represents a decisive step toward righting historical wrongs and restoring hope to affected residents.
Personally delivering the documents on behalf of the governor, the Director-General of Kaduna Geographic and Information Services (KadGIS), Dr. Bashir Garba Ibrahim, assured beneficiaries that the administration remains committed to justice and fairness in land allocation.
“This initiative, directed by Governor Uba Sani, is to ensure that communities whose lands were taken without due process receive rightful compensation,” Dr. Ibrahim stated. He noted that Babban Saura had been embroiled in a land dispute for seven years until the governor’s intervention finally provided a resolution.
Under this directive, affected residents were granted their rightful land allocations with a 30% zero-premium benefit. With over 4,000 land offers already signed under the initiative, Governor Sani has demonstrated his unwavering resolve to correct past injustices and protect the rights of Kaduna’s residents.
Dr. Ibrahim further reassured the people, stating, “We are here to serve the people, not to demolish their homes.” His words resonated deeply with many beneficiaries, who expressed overwhelming emotions—some shedding tears of joy, others rendered speechless by the relief of finally receiving their rightful land.
Beyond Babban Saura, Governor Sani’s administration has taken significant strides to resolve longstanding land disputes across the state. The initiative has already facilitated the distribution of 1,133 allocation letters to landowners along the Rigasa-Mando highway as part of Kaduna’s Western sector development plan. Over the past 17 months, 347 land disputes have been amicably resolved, with 203 alternative plots provided to claimants.
In a move further reinforcing the administration’s commitment to fairness, the government also restored previously revoked land to rightful owners, including two parcels in Kaduna city that were returned to the family of the late Head of State, General Sani Abacha.
Stakeholders have lauded Governor Sani’s decisive action, emphasizing that his policies are setting a new standard in land administration and governance. As the project continues to expand, more residents stand to benefit, ensuring a future where justice and equitable development prevail in Kaduna State.
