The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, has been recognized as the “Iconic Maritime Personality of the Year 2024”, an honor bestowed upon him by the Nigerian Maritime Journalists (NMJ) for his outstanding leadership and contributions to the sector.

At the award ceremony held on Thursday, February 13, 2025, CGC Adeniyi reflected on the strides made in 2024 and reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining the momentum in 2025. Despite the challenges ahead, he expressed confidence in further strengthening policy implementation, trade facilitation, and revenue generation.

“We are gradually restoring sanity in policy formulation and implementation, where we play a critical role. In 2025, we will sustain this trajectory to ensure duty collection is conducted in an environment that promotes seamless trade facilitation,” Adeniyi stated.

Expressing deep appreciation for the recognition, he emphasized the significance of the award as a unifying symbol for maritime journalists. He urged industry stakeholders, including freight forwarders and the media, to foster stronger collaboration and professional development through continuous training and engagement.

Chairman of the Award Planning Committee, Dele Aderibigbe, highlighted that Adeniyi’s selection was a unanimous decision by all maritime journalists. He described the honor as historic, marking the first time industry professionals collectively recognized a leader whose “purposeful, professional, and patriotic leadership” has elevated both the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the nation’s maritime sector.

As CGC Adeniyi embarks on 2025 with renewed commitment, the maritime community looks forward to sustained reforms and enhanced operational efficiency under his stewardship.
