The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, has reaffirmed the critical need for collaboration between the NCS and the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) to enhance the efficiency and global competitiveness of Nigerian ports.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to the NPA headquarters on Thursday, February 13, 2025, Adeniyi stressed that the effectiveness of Customs operations is directly linked to the efficiency of the ports, stating, “If we get it right in our ports, we will get it right in the Service.”

He emphasized the need for NPA’s strategic support to drive key NCS initiatives aimed at streamlining port operations, improving cargo clearance, and boosting exports. He commended the existing synergy between the two agencies, particularly highlighting the success of the Export Processing Terminal as a model for similar initiatives in Nigeria’s eastern ports to stimulate trade.

“The Nigeria Customs Service is ready to work with our ports authority on initiatives that will ensure the competitiveness of our ports,” Adeniyi affirmed.

In response, NPA Managing Director, Abubakar Dantsoho, assured the Customs Service of unwavering support, pledging to strengthen collaboration to enhance efficiency, reduce bottlenecks, and drive economic growth.

“We are here for you, and we will give you all the necessary support. Together, we can move both agencies forward and help Nigeria become a better country,” Dantsoho stated.

With this renewed commitment, stakeholders anticipate a more seamless and efficient port system that will enhance Nigeria’s position as a regional trade hub.
