The Journey to Certification and the Future of African Business Aviation

In a landmark moment for Africa’s private aviation sector, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Director General Captain Chris Najomo has issued and presented an Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) to Falcon Aerospace Limited, operating as VivaJets. This accreditation, granted in January 2025, signifies a critical milestone in the company’s ambition to redefine business aviation across the continent.

For VivaJets, the road to certification was one of resilience, innovation, and strategic expansion. The company, founded with a vision to bridge Africa’s connectivity gap, has steadily grown into a premier provider of business aviation services. The AOC now allows the firm to scale its operations, further enhancing accessibility and efficiency in a market that is witnessing an unprecedented surge in demand for private air travel.

Reflecting on the achievement, CEO Chukwuerika Achum emphasized that the certification is more than just a regulatory approval—it is a validation of VivaJets’ mission to transform business aviation in Africa. “This milestone affirms our commitment to safety, operational excellence, and innovation. With this certification, we are well-positioned to expand our fleet, introduce cutting-edge digital solutions, and create more opportunities for business connectivity across the continent.”

Indeed, the timing of the AOC could not be more opportune. Africa is currently experiencing a private aviation boom, with a 15% increase in private jet flights over the past year. Nigeria, South Africa, and Kenya are leading this charge, as an emerging class of entrepreneurs and executives prioritize efficiency in their business travels. VivaJets, with its robust infrastructure and commitment to seamless air transportation, is uniquely positioned to meet this growing demand.

Tejumade Salami, Chief Operating Officer of VivaJets, highlights how the company’s international outlook has played a crucial role in shaping its success. “We have established a presence in key markets, including North America, Europe, and the Middle East. Our participation in global summits and investment forums has not only strengthened our brand but also opened doors for strategic partnerships and technological advancements.”

Salami further underscored VivaJets’ investment in digital transformation, enabling more flexible and cost-effective business aviation services. “We are leveraging technology to make private jet travel more accessible, ensuring that business leaders across Africa can connect seamlessly with the global economy,” he stated.

With the AOC secured, the focus now shifts to expansion. VivaJets is increasing its fleet, growing its network, and seeking investments to accelerate its rapid international growth. Mark Adoga, Head of Flight Operations, reiterated the company’s commitment to maintaining world-class standards. “Our goal is to provide safe, luxurious, and efficient air travel without compromise. We are ready to take African business aviation to the next level.”

The issuance of the AOC marks not just a regulatory achievement but a defining chapter in VivaJets’ journey. As the company soars to new heights, it stands as a symbol of Africa’s growing influence in global aviation, reshaping the way businesses connect and thrive across borders.
