A recent controversy surrounding FirstBank has sparked public attention following reports by ThisDay Newspaper and Arise Television, alongside a viral video alleging fraudulent activities within the bank. The claims stem from a legal case filed by Dr. Agbai Eke, a customer, against FirstBank.

However, in an official response, Olayinka Ijabiyi, Acting Group Head of Marketing & Corporate Communications at First Bank of Nigeria Limited, dismissed the allegations as “entirely unfounded and false.” According to the bank, internal investigations revealed that the issue at hand involved “unprofessional and unethical dealings” between Dr. Agbai Eke and a former FirstBank employee. The transactions in question, FirstBank asserts, were unauthorized and conducted outside the bank’s knowledge or involvement.

With the matter now before the court, FirstBank has refrained from making further comments, allowing legal proceedings to take their course. Additionally, the bank has reported the incident to law enforcement agencies for proper investigation, and the individuals involved have provided useful statements as inquiries continue.

Reflecting on the situation, FirstBank reiterated its unwavering commitment to transparency, accountability, and the protection of its customers’ interests. The institution assured its stakeholders that it continues to uphold the highest standards of integrity and professionalism, reinforcing its reputation as one of Nigeria’s leading financial institutions.
