Ogun 1 Customs Comptroller Strengthens Ties with Traditional Rulers, Security Agencies to Combat Smuggling

In a strategic move to enhance border security and curb smuggling activities, the Customs Area Controller of Ogun 1 Command, Comptroller Mohammed Salisu Shuaibu, has paid a courtesy visit to prominent traditional rulers and security agencies in Ogun State. The visit reaffirms his commitment to fostering peace, strengthening economic growth, and reinforcing security along Nigeria’s borders with the Republic of Benin.

During the visit, Comptroller Shuaibu engaged with key traditional leaders, including His Royal Majesty (HRM) Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, and Oba Kehinde Gbadewole Olugbenle. He acknowledged the vital role of traditional institutions in maintaining order and security within their communities. Expressing gratitude for their unwavering support, he emphasized that their influence and cooperation remain essential in tackling border-related crimes.

The visit also included high-level discussions with sister security agencies, such as the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), and the Department of State Security Services (DSS). These engagements highlighted the importance of intelligence sharing, resource coordination, and unified strategies in suppressing smuggling and other cross-border crimes that threaten national security and economic stability.

Recognizing the strategic significance of Ogun State’s borders with Benin Republic, Comptroller Shuaibu stressed the need for continuous collaboration among all stakeholders. He pledged that the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) would implement innovative strategies, working closely with security agencies, traditional leaders, and youth groups to safeguard the nation’s borders while promoting economic prosperity.

The Customs chief further warned smugglers and economic saboteurs to desist from their illicit activities, stating that the Ogun 1 Command is fully committed to tracking down and prosecuting offenders. He urged stakeholders to remain resolute in their efforts to combat smuggling and uphold national security, calling for sustained cooperation in the collective fight against economic crimes.
