“Stakeholders Demand NCC Action as 9Mobile Network Crumbles—Urge License Withdrawal or Management Overhaul”

Mounting frustration over persistent network failures has placed 9Mobile under intense scrutiny, with stakeholders urging the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to take decisive action. Reports from subscribers across multiple locations indicate that the telecom operator’s services are unreliable, leaving many disconnected from vital communication and data access.

A concerned industry stakeholder likened telecom services to a “life-supporting machine,” emphasizing that millions of Nigerians depend on reliable connectivity for business and personal communication. The stakeholder accused the NCC of failing in its regulatory responsibilities, arguing that if this were the banking sector, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) would have withdrawn 9Mobile’s operating license—just as it did in the recent case of Heritage Bank.

Recalling past industry challenges, the stakeholder noted that Econet once faced a similar crisis, but strategic intervention restored its operations before Airtel eventually took over. The ongoing decline of 9Mobile’s services, however, suggests a deeper management failure, prompting calls for the removal of its leadership.

Stakeholders are now advocating for a complete overhaul of 9Mobile’s management, with a fresh team given a renewed mandate to restore service quality and ensure operational efficiency. With public confidence in 9Mobile dwindling, all eyes are on the NCC to determine whether it will enforce regulatory measures or allow the crisis to escalate further.
