Breaking Free: Sa’adatu Muhammad Usman’s Journey from Addiction to Empowerment

Please share

In an emotional and deeply inspiring session yesterday, Sa’adatu Muhammad Usman shared her personal journey of overcoming addiction and trauma while delivering a powerful presentation on “Substance Use Dependence: Addressing Challenges of Women in Recovery.”

She emphasized that women struggling with addiction should not suffer in silence, calling for safe spaces where they can share their stories, receive support, and heal.

“Women shouldn’t face addiction and trauma alone. Together, we can create a supportive environment that empowers survivors to take control of their lives, thrive, and live with purpose and dignity,” Usman declared.

In a moment of vulnerability, she recounted her own battle with substance dependence and the emotional wounds that accompanied it. Through resilience, support, and self-determination, she found a path to recovery—an experience she hopes will inspire others facing similar struggles.

The session was hosted by Mr. Femi Babafemi, Director of Media and Advocacy, NDLEA Headquarters, Abuja, who encouraged further engagement with the discussion.

“The conversation is recorded on our social media platforms. You can listen again to gain more insights and share with others,” Babafemi announced.

With another edition of the programme on the way, participants anticipate more life-changing discussions, impactful reflections, and solutions aimed at breaking the cycle of substance dependence among women.
