…Kano, Lagos, and Seven Other States Receive Thousands of Bags of Rice as Distribution Continues
The Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) has intensified its 2025 Food Intervention Programme, delivering hundreds of thousands of 10kg bags of rice to states including Kano, Bauchi, Nasarawa, Niger, Lagos, Abuja, Katsina, Borno, and Gombe, with more states set to receive their share in the coming weeks.
The N16 billion initiative aims to support over one million Nigerians across the 774 Local Government Areas, providing relief to vulnerable families amid economic challenges. The programme was officially launched in Kano State by ADF Chairman, Aliko Dangote, underscoring the Foundation’s commitment to fighting hunger and alleviating hardship.
Speaking at the flag-off event, Mrs. Zouera Youssoufou, Chief Executive Officer of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, described the initiative as the second edition of the nationwide food relief effort, emphasizing its role in complementing government interventions.
“This programme is a reflection of Mr. Dangote’s deep compassion for the most vulnerable Nigerians. We are dedicated to giving back to society and ensuring that food reaches those in dire need,” Mrs. Youssoufou stated.
Widespread Impact Across States
At the Bauchi State distribution, ADF representative Mr. Ahmed Hashem confirmed the delivery of 25,000 bags of 10kg rice to the state, ensuring fair distribution across the 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs).
Hajiya Hajara Yakubu Wanka, Bauchi State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, detailed the allocation strategy:
- 500 bags per LGA
- 10,000 bags for mosques and churches to support both Ramadan and Lent observances
- 5,000 bags for critical stakeholders
In Niger State, Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba commended ADF for donating 30,000 bags, assuring that the selection process for beneficiaries would be carefully managed by a government-appointed committee.
Similarly, Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule lauded the Foundation’s generosity as his state also received 30,000 bags. The Emir of Keffi, Dr. Shehu Chindo Yamusa III, offered prayers for the continued prosperity of Dangote Industries Limited in appreciation of the intervention.
Lagos State Receives 80,000 Bags
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, expressed gratitude for the 80,000-bag donation, describing it as a lifeline for struggling households.
“Aliko Dangote is a Nigerian who has chosen to be different—prioritizing people’s welfare over profit. His continuous support for the most vulnerable speaks volumes about his leadership and humanity,” Sanwo-Olu remarked.
The Governor acknowledged the global economic challenges affecting food security and praised Dangote for stepping in where it matters most.
Ensuring Effective Distribution
According to Mr. Anthony Chiejina, Group Chief Branding and Corporate Communications Officer, Dangote Industries Limited, the food distribution is being coordinated with state governments to ensure efficiency and prevent diversion.
“This monumental intervention reaffirms the Aliko Dangote Foundation’s dedication to humanitarian service, offering much-needed relief to millions facing economic hardship across Nigeria,” Chiejina stated.
With additional states set to benefit in the coming weeks, the Dangote Foundation’s food relief programme stands as one of the largest private-sector-driven interventions in Nigeria’s fight against hunger and poverty.
